We have spent the last few days talking about connection—how to find a safe, quiet corner of the internet to meet friends and share hobbies. But community isn’t just about chatting. It is also about growing.
There is a Japanese concept called ikigai, which roughly translates to “a reason for being.” It suggests that happiness comes from always having something to do, something to learn, or something to contribute.
Retirement shouldn’t mean the end of curiosity. In fact, it’s the best time for it. We finally have the hours to explore the topics we were too busy for when we were working nine-to-five.
The Library of Life
When we built the Resource Centre on the new Canadian Senior Moment site, we didn’t want it to be just a list of links. We wanted it to be a living library.
Today, it houses hundreds of articles on a staggering variety of subjects. You can read about health and wellness, travel tips for seniors, or deep dives into Canadian history. But the heart of the Resource Centre is the collection of Personal Stories.
These are stories of childhoods spent in rural Canada, of growing up in the 50s and 60s, of lessons learned the hard way. Reading them is like opening a time capsule. You’ll find yourself nodding along, thinking, “I remember that too.”
But here is the beautiful part: You aren’t just a reader. You are a historian.
Your Story Matters
Every person reading this newsletter carries a library of stories inside them. You have witnessed a world that has changed faster than any generation before us. You remember party lines and iceboxes, the moon landing and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
If those stories aren’t written down, they vanish.
That is why we are so proud to launch our first flagship course: WRITE YOUR LIFE STORY: The Essential Starter Guide
This isn’t a stiff, academic English class. It is a guided journey designed to help you unlock those memories and get them onto the page. We take the intimidation out of writing. You don’t need to be Hemingway; you just need to be you.
Whether you want to write a full book for your grandchildren or just jot down a few key memories for yourself, this course gives you the tools and the confidence to start.
And There is More to Come
The Memoir course is just the beginning. We are working on a whole curriculum of courses designed to keep your mind sharp and your spirit engaged.
We are building a place where you can be a student one day and a teacher the next. Maybe you read an article on the site today, and tomorrow you share your own experience in The Gathering Place. That cycle of learning and sharing is what keeps a community vibrant.
The Door is Open
So, here is our invitation to you. The new Canadian Senior Moment website is officially open.
-
Come for the articles in the Resource Centre.
-
Stay for the conversation in The Gathering Place.
-
Grow with us in the Courses.
It is a safe, Canadian, senior-focused space where you are not a “user”—you are a member. And we would be honoured to have you pull up a chair.
