Hello friends,
Do you remember when you were younger, and silence felt awkward? If there was a lull in conversation, you felt the need to fill it. If the house was too quiet, you turned on the radio.
One of the great gifts of seniority is learning to be friends with the silence.
Mid-January offers a special kind of quiet here in Canada. The snow acts like a sound dampener, muffling the traffic and the bustle of the outside world. Instead of rushing to turn on the TV this morning, try sitting in that quiet for ten minutes.
Silence isn’t empty; it’s full of answers. It’s in the quiet that we hear our own thoughts clearly. It’s where we process memories, where we find patience, and where we recharge our batteries.
We don’t need to be “doing” something every second to be valuable. Sometimes, just “being” is enough.
Reflect: Do you find silence comforting or unsettling?
Warmly,
Bill & Marilyn
