In the professional world, “Senior” is the goal. You strive to be a Senior Partner, a Senior Vice President, or a Senior Captain. In those contexts, the word doesn’t imply you are “slowing down”; it implies you are at the absolute peak of your authority and expertise. It means you’ve put in the years, survived the “whiteout blizzards” of your industry, and have earned the right to lead.
So, why should “Senior” in life be any different?
The Achievement of Longevity Reaching 65, 75, or 85 is an achievement that is not granted to everyone. It is a milestone of resilience. Think of the shifts in the world you’ve navigated—economic crashes, global changes, and personal losses. You are still here, still learning, and still contributing. That isn’t a decline; it’s a hard-won victory.
A Badge of Wisdom In many cultures, the equivalent of our word “Senior” is “Elder”—a title reserved for those who hold the community’s history and wisdom. While society today often chases the “new” and the “young,” it is the seniors who provide the perspective. You have the ability to see the “long game” because you’ve lived it.
When we use the name Canadian Senior Moment, we aren’t talking about forgetting where the car keys are. We are talking about those moments of clarity, wisdom, and connection that only come with decades of experience.
