Super Heat Vs Super Cold
Monday the second of February 2026 here in Perth Western Australia, almost on the opposite side of our planet Earth, to you Folk in Canada.
A stark reminder stalks me today of the stunning difference between where we each reside. My long time friend, Bill, from Nova Scotia emailed me a photo last Saturday of his property. A thick layer of snow covering his front yard! Freezing!
At two pm today, my weather station, situated under my patio, advises it is 41c and rising! Man, it is blisteringly hot outside! So hot it takes my breath away if I'm unwise enough to venture outdoors.
Now, consider this. Yesterday our super hot day reached 38c. Overnight the temperature in our bedroom did not go below 30c! We slept on top of cotton sheets with a strong fan blasting across us. Many people leave air conditioning on all night. We won't do that. Super costly. Super unfriendly for our climate. An efficient fan proved adequate for us to get...some....sleep.
At 2.12 pm I'm considering which would be more preferable? Shovelling snow or going out the back in this super heat to water my veggies before they dehydrate into dried up brown leaves.
H'mmm....shovelling snow is the winner. Please beam me up Scotty to Nova Scotia! I will bring a snow shovel!

Australia would welcome both you and Marilyn, Bill. However, it's a long haul! We flew across the BIG ditch on two occasions. Perth to Vancouver, return. Perth to Los Angeles, return, via Hawaii.
Around 15 hours each way across a scary amount of ocean! Talk about numb bottoms and developing a nervous condition looking at those huge engines grinding away for 15 hours; non stop.
It was an exciting experience but we will be satisfied with those journeys. Enough is enough.
Pleased to report it's cooled down to 34c here at 4.20 pm.
