Happy Valentine’s Day! Whether you’re celebrating with a lifelong partner, family, or just treating yourself to an extra-large chocolate, we hope your weekend is filled with a bit of extra warmth. It’s been a reflective week here, and amidst the colder winds, it’s nice to have a day dedicated to the people who make the journey worthwhile.
Here is your roundup covering the next 8 days, from Saturday, February 14th to Sunday, February 22nd.
Scams to Watch For
The “Romantic Interest” Wire Transfer: Since it’s Valentine’s Day, please be extra wary of any “new friends” you’ve met online who suddenly have an emergency. A common tactic right now involves someone professing their love quickly and then asking for money to cover a “medical bill” or a “plane ticket” to finally come visit you. If you haven’t met them in person, never send money.
The Fake “CRA” Refund Text: We’ve seen a spike in text messages claiming you have an uncollected tax refund from the Canada Revenue Agency. They use a link that looks official but is designed to steal your banking login. Remember: the CRA will never send you a link by text to click for a refund.
Door-to-Door “Safety” Inspections: With the heating season in full swing, scammers are posing as utility workers or “safety inspectors” wanting to check your furnace or water heater. Their goal is often to lock you into a predatory high-interest contract or place a lien (NOSI) on your home. Always ask for ID and call the company directly to verify—better yet, don’t let them in at all.

Chuckles Corner
The Best Joke of the Day (1955 Style): A man was complaining to his friend about his wife’s cooking. “Every time she makes a pie, she burns it to a crisp!” His friend asked, “Why don’t you just tell her?” The man replied, “I tried once. She looked at me and said, ‘Listen, dear, if you want someone who can cook, go find a chef. I’m just here to make sure you stay ‘well-done’ until you’re 80!'”
The Hit Parade (1961): “Are You Lonesome Tonight?” by Elvis Presley. This classic was sitting right at the top of the charts in February 1961. It’s a perfect song for Valentine’s Day—whether you’re dancing in the kitchen or just enjoying the King’s famous spoken-word bridge.
