Connecting to Wi-Fi – Your Internet Connection
Hi there. Welcome back to “Your Canadian Senior Moment”! In our last lesson, we learned how to power our devices on and off. Today, we’re going to take the next big step: connecting to the internet using Wi-Fi. It’s the key that unlocks a world of information, communication, and entertainment!

What is Wi-Fi?
Think of Wi-Fi as an invisible cord that connects your device to the internet. When you’re at home, your router is what provides that connection. It’s important to know how to find it and connect to it.
Connecting with a Computer:
-
Look for the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom right corner of your screen. It looks like a fan or a few curved lines.
-
Click the icon, and a list of available Wi-Fi networks will appear.
-
Click the name of your home network.
-
If prompted, enter your password. This is sometimes on a sticker on your router or you may have saved it elsewhere.
Connecting with a Smartphone or Tablet:
-
Open the Settings app (the gear icon).
-
Tap the Wi-Fi option.
-
Tap on your home network name from the list.
-
Enter the password when asked.

Your Turn to Practice!
With a family member or friend, see if you can disconnect and then reconnect your device to your home Wi-Fi network. Remember, the Wi-Fi password is your private key to your home internet, so keep it secure!
What’s Next? In our next lesson, we’ll start exploring the amazing things you can do once you’re connected. We’ll cover how to find information on the web and the basics of using a web browser. We’ll see you then!
(Please remember: Your device and screen may look slightly different from our examples. If you run into any difficulty, please describe your problem in the comments and we’ll do our best to help you individually.)
Warmly,
Bill and Marilyn

A freelance writer, published author, and editor of over 50 books, Bill co-founded *Canadian Senior Moment* with his wife, Marilyn, to provide a trusted space for seniors to find clarity, safety, and connection in the digital age. When he isn’t troubleshooting “tech gremlins” or sharing childhood memories of the Prairies, he can be found in his woodshop or working on his latest novel.
