Happy Saturday! As the calendar turns toward April, we are seeing the first true signs of spring across the country. It’s a wonderful time to shake off the winter chill, but as the seasons change, so do the tactics of those looking to take advantage of us. Let’s stay sharp together.
Scam Alert: Protect Your Pocketbook
The “Bank Courier” Scam A sophisticated scam is on the rise where fraudsters call pretending to be from your bank’s security department. They claim your credit card has been compromised and tell you a “courier” is coming to your house to collect the card for “evidence” or “replacement.”
-
The Fact: A bank will never send a person to your home to collect a credit card or ask for your PIN over the phone. If you get this call, hang up and call the number on the back of your card yourself.
The “Police Impersonator” Fraud Similar to the bank scam, some areas are reporting “officers” calling to ask for bail money or “legal fees” for a relative, sometimes even showing up at the door.
-
The Fact: Police do not go door-to-door to collect cash or bank cards. Always verify by calling your local station directly using a trusted number.
