Good morning! We hope you’ve had a productive week. As we officially move into the middle of March, it’s a great time to look ahead at what’s happening in our communities and, more importantly, how to stay safe while navigating them.
Scam & Misinformation Alerts: Stay Sharp
-
Fake N.S. Driving Rules: Be wary of social media posts claiming new mandatory driving tests or age limits for seniors in Nova Scotia for 2026. The provincial government has confirmed these are 100% false. Always check official government websites before worrying about your license.
-
The “Bail Bondsman” Scam: Halifax Regional Police recently charged a fraud ring involving scammers who call posing as a relative in legal trouble. The “new” twist is someone appearing at your front door posing as a bail bondsman or courier to collect cash. Remember: Law enforcement in Canada will never come to your home to collect bail money.
-
The “Premier’s Bonus” Fraud: Watch out for calls claiming to be from the Premier’s Office offering a “Senior’s Bonus” in exchange for your banking info. Governments will never ask for your private financial details over a cold call.
