Happy Saturday! It looks like spring is finally trying to peek through across the country, though I know some of you on the Prairies might still be seeing a few stubborn snowflakes.
Here is your roundup for the next eight days, from Saturday, April 4th, through to next Sunday, April 12th.
Scam Watch: April 2026
-
The “National Strategy” Phishing Email: The federal government recently launched consultations for a new National Anti-Fraud Strategy. Scammers are already piggybacking on this news, sending out emails that look like “official consultation surveys.” They’ll ask for your input and then request your SIN or bank info to “verify your identity” for a supposed participation incentive. Delete these immediately.
-
AI Voice Cloning in “Grandparent Scams”: We are seeing a massive spike in scammers using AI to mimic the exact voice of a grandchild. They call claiming to be in legal trouble or at a hospital. If you get a call like this, hang up and call your grandchild or their parents directly on their known number—no matter how much the caller begs you not to.
-
Parcel Delivery Texts: With spring shopping starting, watch out for texts claiming a package is “held at the warehouse” due to a missing house number or unpaid fee. They want your credit card info for a “re-delivery fee” of just a few dollars. Don’t click the link.
