National News for Seniors

Pension Boost Confirmed for September: Canadian seniors receiving Old Age Security (OAS) and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) can expect an increase in their September payments. The federal government has adjusted these benefits to reflect the rising cost of living, providing additional financial support. The updated amounts will be automatically applied and delivered via direct deposit on September 25, 2025. To ensure timely payment, seniors should confirm that their direct deposit and personal information are up to date with Service Canada.

Upcoming Events (September 20 – September 28, 2025)

Here’s a look at some of the events and activities for seniors happening across the country.

Alberta

  • Lethbridge: The Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization is hosting several events, including the AA Eye Opener Support Group on September 20th and 27th, an In-Person Trans Peer Support Group on September 20th, and the Indigenous Wellness Conference on September 23rd. A Job Fair will be held on September 25th, and Money Matters Consultations are available on September 26th.

  • Calgary: Unison at Kerby Centre is offering a free in-person presentation, “Managing Your Debt,” on September 24th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

British Columbia

  • Vancouver: On September 23rd, the 411 Seniors Centre will host a free presentation on “The Importance of Staying Connected: Preventing Social Isolation and Loneliness.”

  • Richmond: Seniors First BC is holding a presentation on Advance Planning at the Minoru Centre for Active Living on September 25th.

Manitoba

  • LaSalle: The Good Neighbours Active Living Centre is hosting a Fall Supper on September 28th.

New Brunswick

  • Moncton: In celebration of the International Day of Older Persons, there will be a special reception at City Hall on September 28th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., featuring music, treats, and prizes.

Nova Scotia

  • Lunenburg County: The Nova Scotia 55+ Games will take place from September 20th to 24th. The games will be held in various communities, including Bridgewater and Chester, and will feature a wide range of sports and activities, from pickleball and hockey to cribbage and curling.

Ontario

  • Scarborough: A Seniors’ Tea & Chat drop-in program will be held at AccessPoint on Danforth on September 20th.

  • York: On September 22nd, AccessPoint on Jane is hosting Arts and Crafts with Newcomer Seniors and Bingo with Newcomer Seniors.

Prince Edward Island

  • Across PEI: Free Seniors’ Financial Workshops are being held in communities across the province throughout September. These workshops provide valuable information on federal and provincial benefits for which seniors may be eligible.

Quebec

  • Beaconsfield: The Stand-Up Program will take place on September 23rd at the Herb Linder Annex.

Saskatchewan

  • Province-wide: Seniors’ Week kicks off on September 28th and runs until October 4th. This week is dedicated to celebrating the contributions of seniors in communities across the province.

Yukon

  • Whitehorse: The ElderActive Recreation Association has a full calendar of events, including Pilates classes on September 22nd, 24th, and 26th, a Leisure Hiking group on September 23rd, a Fitness Hiking group on September 24th, and a Leisure Outdoor Walk and Yoga with Richard on September 25th.
